I’m driving Bri to school this morning, and she tells me that she and her friends have decided to make a movie this summer. A documentary. It’s going to be called the “The Most Haunted Places: Nevada.” I don’t know what this kid’s fascination is with ghosts and the paranormal, but she has always had it. I nod approvingly, just trying to get her to school on time, and she starts telling me about all the places they have on their list so far. Somehow, I just knew this would involve me driving.

One place in particular is the Goldfield Hotel in Goldfield, Nevada. It’s a town that has a population of about 220 people and is located in Esmeralda County–about a two and half hour drive from here. I’ve been out there once on business, and trust me, there is NOTHING out there. Anyway, all these bizarre deaths occurred in this abandoned hotel, and it is haunted by their ghosts. She tells me that it’s supposed to be the scariest place in the state, and is known for being one of the seven doorways to the “other side.” Great.

I tell her that she is going to have to talk to Mark, because there is no way I am taking her and five kids alone to one of the potential doorways to hell. Can you imagine? It would totally be my luck that my presence would initiate the portal.

Any of you have a strong belief in the paranormal? Would you encourage this if your kids were interested?

I think it’s great that she has such a creative mind! She could be having other useless things to do line I did when I was younger. ;)

    Jordan:
    - watches all the ghost hunter tv shows
    - is fascinated with the topic
    - lives in a very haunted city (Savannah, GA)
    - enjoys visiting Vegas
    - and most importantly is a Junior Film Major at the Savannah College of Art & Design

Bri & her friend should pitch their idea to her and see if they can get her to make it into a student film project…bet all of them would have fun with it.

I actually suggested that, Robert. Since she goes to a performing arts school, I told her that they must have a film department and maybe she could grab one of those kids to do all the filming. This thing screams extra credit for all of them.

OK.. I was rolling thinking of you and your luck. It would be advisable to take along another somewhat luckier adult.

I think its cool that Bri has all these interest.

All that you would need is someone there with that just right inquisitive mind…

    “Hey, what does this do?”

    “Nice doggie!”

All seriousness aside ;o) I think it would be a fun project, and as long as proper permission is granted, might be a great way to stay out of trouble.

    Tim…you laugh?

I am thinking about renting a minivan so I can get all those kids up there, but first I have to make sure we can get inside the place. Everything I’ve seen, said it’s an abandoned hotel. I will laugh so hard if these kids get scared out of their minds.

I don’t know if I have a “strong” belief, but I believe there are things going on we don’t understand, whether or not they are paranormal, ghostly events, or some more scientific and natural phenomena that we just don’t understand yet, I don’t know. But I watch the ghost hunter shows on SyFy, and it sounds like a cool idea.

Would I do it myself if I could? Not a snowball’s chance in hell…

Awww c’mon Wheelman! You mean you aren’t going to tempt the vortex with me?

It appears that the hotel is currently under renovation, and Goldfield is sooo small that they don’t have any real city offices. So, I have contacted the local librarian and am awaiting a response. Now the kids have us very interested. If there are no ghosts, we’ll have to get creative on making sure we scare the crap out of those kids!

Watch the movie “1408″ if you haven’t already. Rev’s doppleganger is in it.

And that place could SO be rigged to be spooktacular in advance with some help from accomplices…

This place has a Room 109. Supposedly the successful businessman who owned the place had a mistress named Elizabeth, who became pregnant. When she began to show, he chained her to a radiator in Room 109, only giving her food and water until she delivered. When the baby was born, he threw it into a mine shaft which ends underneath the basement of the hotel. Neither Elizabeth or the baby were ever seen again, and supposedly haunt the room until this day.

Oh that is so cool! I was watching Ghost Hunters the other day. It made me want to go some of these places and see if I see anything. :!:

If there’s anyone from whom to get permission to go into the hotel for the project, my bet is that they wouldn’t let a handful of under-18s in there without adult supervision and there will probably be a mountain of waivers for parents to sign.

Since you asked, yeah, I do believe in stuff because I have certain, um, abilities myself, as did my mom and her mom before her (which Mom never told me about until I told her, when I was 23, about my own situation). Only in the past couple of years or so have I really developed what I’ve had all along and am now to the point that I’m able to help other people, and I’m loving it. It’s been with me all my life so I’m very pragmatic about it, not all oooo-eee–oooo.

That said, I watch those TV shows too and it always makes me laugh when something really does (seem to?) happen and the “investigators” scream and run. The taunting and daring and threatening just make me roll my eyes.

I might go as long as I didn’t have to be ALONE. I’ve seen how those ghost hunters operate, and even though a good ghost hunter goes in with a good dose of skepticism, even they get scared sometimes by the most mundane things.
